Jo Patience photographic shop
May 16th, 2010 at 11:14am

The old Patience photographic shop in Queens Road, Southend on Sea moved down to Eastern Esplanade three years ago but the shop is no longer there. Does anyone know if there are any relations to Jo Patience living in the area, please?

The reason is that my late mother, who sadly died just over a week ago, was a customer of Patience, together with her husband and parents, her father being Arthur Blackburn of Victoria Avenue, Southend on Sea.

Arthur Blackburn ran a photographic import business in London, RF Hunter Ltd., which imported the Rolleiflex cameras and Patterson screens.

As I recall, Joe's son Colin took over after Joe died - Colin would be about 65 now.  Not much help I know but might get you started.

I think it was Colin I bumped into just before he packed in the shop on the seafront. By then they were selling mainly binoculars and spotting scopes. I had been a regular at the Queens Road shop since the early 70's.

He said he was going to stay in business but entirely on the Internet. There might be a lead there.
