About the Southend Weather Station
Sarfend provides local weather information for Southend-on-Sea and the surrounding area, using data from an amateur weather station in Leigh-on-Sea, together with other weather information sources.
Our Weather Station
Our first local weather station was a WH1081 wireless USB weather station. This measured temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, wind direction and rainfall.
In July 2011, we upgraded to the Watson W8681 (Mk II), which added solar and ultraviolet (UV) sensors.
The weather station sends readings wirelessly to an indoor base unit, connected to a computer via USB. The computer processes the readings using Cumulus weather station software.
Weather readings are uploaded to the website automatically, providing regularly updated local weather information.

Southend Weather Webcam
We also operate a webcam, which provides images during daylight hours, typically updated every 10 minutes.

Thinking of Getting Your Own Weather Station?
Home weather stations range from simple indoor temperature and humidity monitors to more sophisticated wireless systems measuring wind speed, rainfall, atmospheric pressure and UV levels.
