Priory Crescent Closure
Apr 16th, 2010 at 11:14am

I have just noticed signs warning of the Closure of Priory Crescent on the 18th for 24 hours. As I didn't get time to see the notice properly as I was driving (it was displayed on the electronic board in Victoria Avenue (part of the £75,000 awareness scheme I presume) I thought I would check it out on the Council's website.

Guess what? Yep no mention of it. Although if you do a search about road closures you do get a comprehensive list of closures....for the year 2005, very helpful. I have submitted a form to the council querying this omission, and received two automated replies confirming I have sent an enquiry.........I'll keep you informed. Hopefully better than the Council does. Undecided

You're not having much luck on your routes out of town lately are you! Looks like you will be joining the growing band of rat runners weaving through the side streets soon.

Sadly I'm not surprised about the grossly out of date websites. Might be worth pointing this out to a Councillor as otherwise I fear any response you get will be of the "not my responsibility but I've passed your query to X Dept" variety.

Sad Roll Eyes

Even that response would be a notch up from what I have had up to now.

UPDATE:

Priory Crescent closed from 6 AM Sunday 18th for 24 hours.

As far as I can make out it is for the Gas main works...

Driving around the area today I can confirm that there are no signs whatsoever warning of the closure on the route westbound along Eastern Avenue or southbound down Manners Way. Probably trying to save some of that £75.000 advertised to keep the public up to date with the works.

Today, I wanted to visit my parents, and as I was coming from the direction of Chelmsford, I decided to go the Hullbridge - Ashingdon - Rochford - Wakering - Southchurch route. No problems at all. Really pleasant to be constantly driving.

Thats often the route I take now to get in & out of town. Depending on the day & time of day, it can often be quicker heading for the A127 or A13 to go via Stonebridge Barling Magna, Rochford Hall Road , Snakes Lane.

Not for much longer now I suspect....  Cheesy

Yep, unfortunately half of the population of Southend will be trying to use the Rochford, Ashingdon and Eastwood routes. And with the new seafront road layout I'm afraid it is going to get worse, oh so much worse. But, we must look on the positive side, when the slip road in Priory Crescent is finished the three or four people who would head west to Cuckoo Corner to then turn left into Victoria Avenue will save nearly four minutes a day, result!

4 minutes? Thats a bit optimistic isn't it?

Just look on the bright side, at least we will have something to look at whilst stuck in the queues of traffic, now that they have spent a fortune putting up propaganda, sorry publicity signs, everywhere.

Shame they couldn't have put up a few notices warning of the closure really isn't it?
